This policy explains what information TruckDistrictUSA collects when you visit truckdistrictusa.com, read our articles, send us a message or leave a comment, what we use it for, who else is involved, and how to ask us to see or delete it. TruckDistrictUSA is run by Jawad Altaf, an individual website operator, not a registered company (“we”, “us”).
The short version
- You can read the whole site without giving us any personal information.
- We only receive your name and email address if you choose to contact us.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- YouTube videos do not load until you click play.
- Email contact@truckdistrictusa.com with the subject “Privacy request” to see, correct or delete what we hold about you.
Information we collect
When you use the contact form
We receive your name, email address, subject and message. The form also records the browser and device type you used. The message is emailed to our inbox and a copy is stored in our website’s database so we can follow up.
When you email us
We receive your email address, anything you include in the message, and the technical details email normally carries.
Comments
Comments are turned off, so we don’t collect anything through comments. If we turn them on, we will update this policy first.
When you visit any page
Like every website, our server receives your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for, the referring page and the time of the request. Our hosting provider, Hostinger, delivers the site through its servers and content delivery network and keeps these logs to run the site, keep it secure and fix problems.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Browser storage (such as “local storage”) works in a similar way. Here is what this site uses today:
- Reading the site: no cookies are set for ordinary visitors.
- Sign-in cookies: only people who manage the site and sign in to it receive WordPress login cookies.
- YouTube videos: each video is shown as a button. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you click it. When you do, the video plays from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain (youtube-nocookie.com), and YouTube may then store information in your browser under Google’s privacy policy.
You can block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings. The site still works if you do.
How we use information
- To read and reply to your messages, tips and correction requests.
- To run, secure and back up the website.
We don’t use your information to make automated decisions about you, and we don’t add you to a mailing list unless you ask to join one.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:
- Hostinger, which hosts and delivers the website and provides our email accounts. Our website server is located in the United States.
- YouTube (Google), only for a video you choose to play.
- Google, which stores our website backups in Google Drive.
- Authorities or other parties when the law requires it, or when needed to protect our rights or someone’s safety.
How long we keep it
- Contact form entries and emails: kept for up to 24 months after our last communication with you, then deleted.
- Comments: comments are turned off. If we turn them on, spam and rejected comments will be deleted within 30 days.
- Email sending log: our site’s record of emails it sent is deleted automatically after 14 days.
- Backups: backups of the website can contain the information above. Our backup plugin makes weekly backups and stores them in our Google Drive account, keeping only the four most recent, so older copies are deleted after about four weeks. Our hosting provider also makes weekly backups of the website, which it keeps under its own retention schedule.
- Server logs: kept by our hosting provider under its own retention schedule.
Your privacy choices and rights
Whatever your location, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct information that is wrong;
- delete your messages and form entries;
- stop using your information for a particular purpose.
Depending on where you live, privacy laws in your US state or country may give you further rights. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on our legitimate interest in running the site and answering you to process your messages; you may also complain to your local data protection authority.
How to make a privacy request
- Email contact@truckdistrictusa.com with the subject “Privacy request”, or use the form on our Contact Us page.
- Say what you would like us to do, and include the name and email address you used with us.
- To protect you, we may ask you to confirm the request from the same email address before we share or delete anything.
- We aim to reply within 30 days, or sooner if a law that applies to you requires it. If we can’t do what you asked, we will explain why, and you can reply to ask us to reconsider.
We will not treat you differently for making a request. You can also ask someone to make a request for you if they can show you authorized them.
Security
The site uses HTTPS encryption, access to the site’s administration is limited, and the software is kept up to date. No method of storing or sending information online is completely secure, so please don’t send us sensitive personal information such as financial or health details.
Children
TruckDistrictUSA is written for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Where your information is stored
Our website is hosted on Hostinger servers in the United States, so information you send through the site is stored there. We may read and answer messages from outside the United States.
Changes to this policy
When we add or change a service that affects your information, such as analytics, advertising, affiliate links or comments, we will update this page before the change goes live and revise the effective date above.
